Paid leave policies ensure workers can deal with their own or a family member’s illness or the arrival of a child without endangering their financial well-being or success in the workplace. Growing bipartisan interest in ensuring access to paid leave is reflected in policies that have been proposed or enacted at the local, state, and federal levels. To inform ongoing debates, Urban Institute researchers are gathering evidence to understand how paid family, medical, and sick leave policies affect children, parents, families, and employers.
