The Welfare Rules Databook provides tables containing key Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) policies for each state and the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands as of July 2022, as well as longitudinal tables describing selected state policies from 1996 through 2022. This year’s edition of this annual publication includes information on the territories for the first time. The report also provides updated information on selected policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tables are based on the information in the Welfare Rules Database (WRD), a publicly available, online database tracking cash assistance policies over time and across the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and territories. The Databook presents a subset of the information in the WRD.
