Facing inflation, people have been turning to credit cards; using buy now, pay later loans; or tapping into savings to afford groceries, according to a new Urban Institute report. Kassandra Martinchek, a food security expert at the Urban Institute and coauthor of the report, spoke with Marketplace about their findings: “More than half of low- and moderate-income adults who used credit cards to purchase groceries faced repayment challenges,” she said, and nearly 1 in 10 used buy now, pay later loans to buy groceries.
