Mirae Kim is a nonresident fellow at the Urban Institute and an associate professor and master of public administration program director at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. Her research focuses on nonprofit financial management, advocacy and lobbying, arts management, and the role of nonprofits in advancing racial and ethnic diversity. Kim leads the Nonprofit Organization Research Panel, a national initiative providing valuable data for scholars and practitioners. She also coleads the National Survey of Nonprofit Trends and Impacts in collaboration with American University and the Urban Institute, offering critical insights into nonprofit operations and government engagement.
Kim earned her PhD from Rutgers University and holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Seoul National University, with additional study at the University of Auckland. Before joining George Mason, she was a tenured faculty member at Georgia State University and previously held a tenure-track position at the University of Missouri.
Kim served as a visiting scholar at Independent Sector, where she coauthored a landmark study on nonprofit advocacy and civic engagement—the first of its kind in two decades. Kim is also a coeditor of Nonprofit Policy Forum and previously served as associate editor for the Journal of Public and Nonprofit Affairs and the International Review of Public Administration.
