Visiting Fellow
Tax and Income Supports Division Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, Aging and Retirement
I live a double life at Urban, but both my roles focus on finding answers to tough policy questions. Building on three decades as a journalist, my work at the Tax Policy Center aims to explain often-arcane tax and fiscal policy to a broad audience. My long-term care work focuses on building practical solutions to the nation’s financing and delivery challenges.

Howard Gleckman is a visiting fellow at the Urban Institute and the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center (TPC), where he provides thought leadership on evolving policy issues. His expertise includes tax policy and aging policy, especially long-term care delivery and financing.

He writes regular columns for Forbes.com on aging and tax issues, is author of the book Caring for Our Parents, and speaks and writes frequently on tax and aging issues.

Gleckman previously worked for nearly 18 years at Urban and TPC, where he was a senior fellow for 10 years. He was founding editor of the TPC blog TaxVox and host of the webcast The Prescription. Before joining Urban, he was a consultant at the Brookings Institution, a visiting fellow at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, and a media fellow at the Kaiser Family Foundation. Previously, he was senior correspondent in the Washington bureau of Business Week, where he covered fiscal policy, taxes, and health care.
