A Winning Combination to Increase Multifamily Housing Supply: Local Regulatory Reforms, Federal Rental Subsidy, and AFFH

Testimony before the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, Committee on Financial Services, US House of Representatives
September 5, 2018

Abstract

Erika C. Poethig, vice president and chief innovation officer, testified before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, on ways to increase the supply of multifamily housing and affordable housing options. The testimony highlights three points that research shows will be critical in creating an equitable and effective regulatory framework for the rental housing market to meet the growing demand for rental housing: addressing exclusionary zoning practices, supporting public investment to support affordable housing, and continuing efforts to protect health and well-being of all communities.
