This snapshot analyzes 2019 National Survey of Early Care and Education (NSECE) data to answer questions about the types of care young children are in during nontraditional hours (NTH).

Key findings:

  • Children in any NTH care were more likely than other children in care to be in family, friend, or neighbor care or infrequent care.
  • Young children in any NTH care were less likely than other children in care to be in center-based care at any time.
  • Children in any NTH care were more likely to be in center-based care during traditional hours than during NTH.
