This brief describes how four community colleges in the Advancing Community Equity and Upward Mobility (ACE-UP) Community of Practice have designed and implemented supportive services to promote student success.

Supportive services, including mental health and wraparound services, were viewed by staff and partners interviewed as important for advancing equity because they can help level the playing field for underrepresented students, promoting students’ academic achievement and career progression.

Staff emphasized the importance of understanding students’ needs to implement targeted supports. The brief also describes challenges and highlights opportunities for college staff to strengthen supportive services. These include leveraging community partnerships to expand resources and improving the accessibility and sustainability of supports.
