College and university endowment size varies by institution sector and selectivity. Endowment assets are concentrated at a very small number of colleges and universities that enroll relatively few low-income students and the schools with the largest endowments tend to be highly selective. However, the high-endowment schools use some of their wealth to reduce the prices they charge low-income students, who pay less to attend these colleges and universities with high published prices than they pay at other institutions.
