We need to increase affordable rental housing in the United States to serve the nineteen million families who currently pay more than half their income in rent and to accommodate the predicted 13 million families who will become renters over the next 20 years. This brief explains how we can help ease this crisis by expanding government programs that are currently focused only on multifamily housing to support rentals in single-family homes and small multifamily buildings.
