Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI)–owned small businesses are among the fastest-growing businesses in the US. Like many other small businesses, they receive affordable credit from federal programs such as the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs, which help them to succeed. This brief examines the distribution of SBA major loan program funding to geographies with higher shares of AAPI populations. It finds that the loan characteristics and total amounts are comparable to national means and, in some cases, are even higher. The analysis of geographies of funding shows large concentrations in more urban areas with higher levels of economic activities. Nonetheless, the brief highlights some unique challenges for AAPI-owned businesses in accessing quality and affordable credit beyond SBA programs.
