This brief describes how four community colleges in the Advancing Community Equity and Upward Mobility (ACE-UP) Community of Practice have leveraged institutional leadership and structures for advancing equity and promoting student success.

We share examples from college staff about how their institutions have focused on advancing equity through student success initiatives, and include descriptions of the roles, departments, and offices responsible for promoting equity across campus. College staff described shared leadership, which intentionally incorporates the perspective of administrators, faculty, and staff in decisionmaking, as important for promoting policies and practices designed to improve outcomes for all students. College staff also described integrating equity goals into institutional strategic planning as an opportunity to advance equity for underserved and underrepresented students.
