Abstract
Policymakers who are developing city housing strategies need solid estimates of the level of production required to accommodate anticipated growth. This Housing in the Nation's Capital Brief provides estimates of the number of new housing units needed between 2005 and 2020, under alternative assumptions about the mix of households that can be attracted to live in the city. Commissioned by the Fannie Mae Foundation, the brief supported the work of the District of Columbia's Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force by providing reliable estimates of the scale of production that would be required to support the city's aspirations for growth.
