The chartbook includes more than 80 updated figures describing current trends in the US housing finance market, such as housing affordability, credit availability, and serious delinquency rates.
The following trends stood out most to Urban Institute housing finance researchers from this chartbook edition:
- The GSE share of first lien origination volume was 34.5 percent in Q2 2025, the lowest this share has been since 2006 (page 8)
- Mortgage rates have trended down noticeably, but remain above 6.0 percent (page 9)
- More than 8 in 10 borrowers have a rate below 6.0 percent (page 10)
- The ARM share has spiked in recent weeks (page 9)
