Housing Finance At A Glance is a monthly reference guide policymakers and industry professionals have used since 2013 to stay informed about the latest mortgage and housing market data. The chartbook includes more than 80 updated figures describing current trends in the US housing finance market, such as housing affordability, credit availability, and serious delinquency rates.
The following trends stood out most to Urban Institute housing finance researchers from this chartbook edition:
- Serious delinquency rates on GSE single-family loans remain low while rates on FHA and VA loans are above prepandemic levels (page 34).
- Spreads on risk-sharing indexes that cover single-family loans have been declining over time (page 33).
- Although the primary spread has declined 73 basis points to 2.40 percent amid solid economic growth and less volatility, the 10-year Treasury rate has increased 83 basis points to 4.49 percent boosting the mortgage rate (page 9).
The February 2025 edition of Housing Finance At A Glance includes a special data feature with Q3 2024 loan level GSE credit data, including origination compositions, default rates, purchase rates and loss severities.
