The Puget Sound Regional Council estimates that the four-county Seattle metropolitan area needs 810,000 new residential units over the next three decades to accommodate growth. Yet housing construction in the area is declining and inadequate to serve a growing population. This fact sheet shows how housing construction in the region is unevenly distributed, with a fair share of housing added in some communities, like the city of Seattle, but a much smaller share added in some suburban cities like Edmonds and Lake Forest Park. Additional support is needed, specifically for families with low and moderate incomes.
