This case study is part of the Mapping Prosecutor-Led Diversion Project, a joint project of the National District Attorneys Association and the Urban Institute with funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. This case study highlights the Drug Diversion and Treatment Program in the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts’s Hampshire and Franklin Counties. It is a diversion program focused on people arrested for crimes driven by drug use. This case study focuses on the program’s health-focused approach and the importance of wide support and buy-in from stakeholders, highlighting takeaways for other prosecutors and stakeholders looking to launch similar programs.
