Urban’s convening of the MMCC early on was invaluable to the efforts of the mortgage finance industry and policy makers. The Housing Finance Policy Center was uniquely positioned to assemble a broad representation of expertise and drive actionable, data-based solutions. We all have more work to do, and I’m excited by the prospects of continuing this effort.

The MMCC’s breadth of interdisciplinary players has created a wonderful way to share ideas, understand the data, and create options for borrowers and industry to advance the ball on credit, liquidity and communication. It provided the impetus and virtual space for me to help lead an outreach campaign—along with several partners who are MMCC participants—targeting at-risk borrowers who are not in contact with their loan servicers (COVIDHELPFORHOME.org). The Urban Institute created the environment and data for us to make this happen.

Mortgage servicers are very grateful to have a forum to share ideas related to our customers. The meetings are rich with data and provide great information to take back to our operations and analytics teams. Through this partnership with housing counselors and other servicers, and the rich data provided by the Urban Institute, servicers are in a better position to make the right decisions for their company and their customers.

This unique gathering of stakeholders from across the housing industry came together to learn from each other, bringing all involved an understanding of how to proactively address the housing crisis spurred by the pandemic. We especially appreciated the voice the housing counseling industry was given in shaping the conversation.
