Urban is producing research to support the Indigenous Economic Development Community of Practice and inform the US Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) grantmaking in Native communities. Through quantitative analysis of EDA grant application data and qualitative research with EDA, tribal economic development staff, and Community of Practice members, our research will answer questions such as the following:
- What are the roles of tribal planning departments, economic development departments, and housing entities in economic development?
- What sources of funding do tribes use for their economic development projects?
- What are the barriers to accessing funding and combining funding from multiple sources—and what innovations can address these barriers?
