Restorative Justice Violence Interruption App

New Jersey has been dedicated to abolishing injustices in and bringing transformative change to its criminal legal system. It has used racial impact analysis at sentencing, restored voting rights for people on probation and parole, implemented the independent prosecutor law, and restricted the use of solitary confinement in state prisons. To continue this trend of transformative change, there is still space and need to provide trauma-informed approaches to rehabilitation and healing and increase access to restorative justice approaches to violence intervention.

With Catalyst Grant funding, Salvation and Social Justice will build on its Restorative Justice Violence Interruption App by developing and launching a data dashboard. The revised app will support violence prevention and intervention activities by informing and improving Salvation and Social Justice’s program operations. More specifically, it will be used to prevent law enforcement contact, divert people from incarceration, and interrupt violence in the community. Program staff will use the app to collect and report field data through a smartphone or tablet and use the data to improve their operational effectiveness and efficiency.
