Blueprint for a Stronger Economic Mobility Field

The most stubborn obstacles to shared opportunity and prosperity span academic disciplines, policy domains, and geographies. While countless organizations are fighting to help all people achieve economic well-being, power, and dignity, their efforts are often too self-contained to achieve meaningful progress.

Organizations across the emerging economic mobility field are calling for deeper coordination. Leaders advancing economic security and justice have voiced the need for a field-building initiative to address the disparate agendas, unconnected knowledge bases, and insufficient resources that drive fragmentation in the field.

This blueprint offers a comprehensive vision and strategy for such an initiative: a Mobility Alliance that could connect organizations and leaders invested in intersectional, cross-domain solutions for economic mobility. With modest resources, a dedicated group of practitioners could use this blueprint to strengthen the economic mobility field and accelerate progress toward an America where economic prosperity is a reality for all people.

    Pilot Project Spotlights

The steering committee deployed six build & learn pilots to test their field-building strategy in a diversity of settings and impact domains. These pilots were designed with trusted field partners, and focused on bringing actors together to catalyze efforts that would have otherwise not emerged or been slow to develop. Each aimed to catalyze meaningful impact while generating insights about how to strengthen the economic mobility field.
