Community-engaged methods aim to include people with personal, lived experience in the knowledge-building and decisionmaking process. A community advisory board (CAB) is a diverse group of community members selected to voice community perspective as coleaders and/or advisers on a project team. This toolkit provides key tools and resources for planning, forming, and operating a CAB, including a considerations checklist, profiles of some Urban Institute project-based CABs, an institutional review board tool, and a budget tool. This toolkit also provides a readiness checklist to use for CAB planning.

This toolkit was reissued on March 27, 2024, with an updated cover photo. No other content was changed.
