This year, as Medicare’s open enrollment season begins, enrollees are faced with new and changing options for health coverage. Laura Skopec, an expert on Medicare at the Urban Institute, shared some considerations with The New York Times about navigating the shifting, often confusing, market. For example, she suggests that because independent insurance brokers depend on referrals, “they really are trying to do the best they can for their clients.” Skopec recently coauthored a brief exploring the role of agents and brokers in Medicare enrollment.
