New York City has offered free public preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds for a decade and is now expanding the program to 2-year-olds. “There’s a lot of interest not just among people in New York, but across the country,” Justin Doromal, early childhood education expert at the Urban Institute, told Education Week. And, he notes, the way the program is designed will give New York the opportunity to address initial issues that arise as the program slowly expands.
