Judah Axelrod, a data scientist at the Urban Institute, spoke with G&M News about how online sports betting has grown rapidly since the 2018 Murphy v. NCAA US Supreme Court case legalized the practice. Sharing findings from a recent Urban article, Axelrod said, “Those who bet online are 15 times more likely to have missed a bill payment than in-person-only bettors.” And, he notes, “These online bettors also bet more often, for larger amounts of money, and place more complex, risky bet types.”
