The Urban Institute’s Judah Axelrod and Will Curran-Groome spoke to Route Fifty about how artificial intelligence can support and supplement changes in policies, regulations, and workflow to address barriers to affordable housing. “I think the jury’s out on whether AI [solutions] can do these things, but there is a lot of interest in seeing if they can,” said Axelrod, an AI expert and data scientist. Curran-Groome, a housing expert at Urban, noted leaders would need to consider their policies, building codes, regulations, and other requirements’ AI-readiness to ensure their outputs are “accurate [and] useful.”
