Following the COVID-19 pandemic’s shift toward remote work, urban business districts are redeveloping to accommodate new residential growth, and those moving in tend to be younger. Jorge González-Hermoso, a housing and economic development expert at the Urban Institute, told Bloomberg, “Young professionals have always been the key demographic when it comes to who these developments are targeting because they put a value on the type of amenities that downtowns are better positioned to offer.”
