Amid staff cuts and field office closures at the Social Security Administration, more retirees are deciding to claim their benefits earlier than they’d planned. “[Retirees are] nervous about the threats to the Social Security Administration and their benefits, while simultaneously looking at their 401(k), if they have one, and worrying about that,”” Jack Smalligan, an aging and retirement policy expert at the Urban Institute, told the New York Times.
