Despite staff and program funding cuts at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Florida's Republican leaders say their state won’t be affected by reduced FEMA support this hurricane season. Andrew Rumbach, a climate and community resilience expert at the Urban Institute, told the Miami Herald, “Local governments are going to be expected to pick up a bigger part of the tab. That could not only be costly, but it could put extra strain and stress, even in a state as prepared as Florida.” Rumbach coauthored an analysis on how proposed cut to disaster assistance could affect states this hurricane season.
