Summarizing Approaches for Designing Inclusive Apprenticeship Programs
Body

The Urban Institute launched the Research to Support the Partnership for Inclusive Apprenticeship Project to document different approaches to inclusive apprenticeship program design and implementation. Apprenticeships are premier “learn and earn” models of training, and expanding their use is a US Department of Labor priority. They provide paid on-the-job learning and related instruction in occupations that foster skills and result in an industry-recognized credential. Inclusive apprenticeship programs are designed to support access and completion by apprentices with disabilities and other underrepresented populations.

The webinar will share key findings from the project, focusing on how a range of partners—an “ecosystem”—can help employers and other apprenticeship sponsors develop inclusive apprenticeship practices at program design, recruitment and initial engagement, and completion. Partners include sponsors, related instruction providers, government agencies (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation) and state and local workforce development agencies, workforce intermediaries, and community-based organizations. Following the presentation of findings, representatives from different parts of the ecosystem will comment on their experiences developing and promoting inclusive apprenticeship programs.
