Corporate Ownership of Housing: Policy Innovation and Organizing
Body

Investments in housing are needed to build and maintain thriving neighborhoods and places. In some communities, large corporate investors have mobilized capital to stabilize neighborhood housing markets and increase the housing supply and options for renters, but in other communities, investor activity has raised concerns around rising prices, increased eviction filings, and reduced housing quality.

As large corporate owners hold an increasing share of both single-family homes and multifamily properties, communities need to understand their impact on residents and the housing market to develop policies and encourage practices that support investment that results in stronger neighborhoods and improved outcomes for residents. Join two national networks with deep local roots and knowledge—the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP) and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)—for a webinar that highlights the challenge of identifying investors and the outcomes tenants experience as a result of corporate ownership. Panelists will share their insights on how better data on investor-owned property can be used to build accountability and guide and strengthen policy and practice in cities across the US.
