Rosie Allen-Herring has more than 30 years of professional experience. She is an international expert in corporate finance, strategic leadership, public and private partnerships, corporate philanthropy, and business strategy. She currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA), where she leads the team in its work to reduce disparities in health, education, and economic opportunity and to improve outcomes for individuals and families in the community. In 2020, United Way NCA was among 384 organizations across the United States to receive a generous transformational investment from novelist and venture philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

Allen-Herring is recognized as a thought leader who can convene public-private entities to leverage talent and resources and create a collective impact in communities across the region and beyond. 

Formerly, Allen-Herring brought her expertise and business acumen to Fannie Mae by serving in various executive roles.

She holds key leadership positions with several business and civic organizations, including serving on the board of directors for MedStar Health Inc., the Greater Washington Partnership, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, WesBanco, United Way Worldwide, the Economic Club of Washington, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Allen-Herring earned a BA in economics from Howard University and an MBA from Strayer University. She was an international fellow of the United States-Southern Africa Center for Leadership and Public Values at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business and Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy. She is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management Program.
