Ken Bacon is cofounder and managing partner of RailField Realty Partners, an entrepreneurially run financial advisory and asset management firm focused on the multifamily sector. Before forming RailField in 2013, he spent 19 years at Fannie Mae as the executive vice president of multifamily mortgage business, where he also managed Fannie Mae’s American Communities Fund. Before joining Fannie Mae, he was director of the Office of Securitization for the Resolution Trust Corporation and held officer positions at Morgan Stanley and Kidder Peabody. 

Bacon serves as board chair at Welltower, chair of the governance and corporate responsibility committee at Comcast, Risk Committee chair at Ally Financial, and member of the board of directors at Arbor Realty Trust. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for Dominium, one of the nation’s largest privately owned affordable housing development and management companies. 

Bacon is active in several nonprofit and trade groups, including the Real Estate Roundtable, the Real Estate Executive Council (where he is an emeritus board member), and the National Multifamily Housing Council. In addition to his board position at the Urban Institute, he serves as board chair of Martha’s Table, a community nonprofit in Washington, DC. He is currently an adjunct professor at the McDonough School of Business–Steers Center for Global Real Estate at Georgetown University. 

Bacon is an alumni and former trustee of Stanford University, where he received his BA. He also has an MS in international relations from the London School of Economics, where he studied as a Marshall Scholar, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire by the British government in recognition of his service to the Marshall Scholars program.
