Policy Associate
Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy

Keely Hanson is a policy associate in the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) at the Urban Institute, where she works with foundations to identify how philanthropic practice can address structural racism, promote justice, and advance equitable grantmaking outcomes.

Hanson is the research manager for CNP’s partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to manage, administer, and monitor $3 million in grants across three nationwide grantmaking initiatives focused on expanding the use of new data developments. Her work focuses on grantmaking analysis, specifically examining equitable grantmaking strategies and identifying how and whether these practices yield meaningful and representative outcomes.

She has also been a project manager for research and technical assistance projects and supported CNP’s strategic and operational development. Before joining Urban, Hanson held several positions in organizations devoted to youth development and increasing equity in educational access, outreach, and retention.

Hanson holds a BA in political science from the University of California, Irvine, and an MPA from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
