John Wehmann is director of design and leads the visual communications team. He joined Urban in 2016, bringing over 15 years of experience in branding and interactive design in the Washington, DC, area. He provides creative direction for a talented team of creatives who communicate Urban's research through various mediums, including data visualization, photography, video, and illustration. He also manages the application of Urban's visual brand across digital and print materials.
Before joining Urban, Wehmann spent six years as art director at Threespot, a DC-based digital agency focused on positive social change. There, he led design teams in producing creative communications for nonprofits, foundations, and organizations, including major site redesigns for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the National Park Service, and Amnesty International, as well as interactive experiences for Conservation International and the National Academy of Sciences. Before his work at Threespot, he was a designer and art director for FleishmanHillard’s Washington, DC, digital team, where he was instrumental in developing award-winning health-focused campaigns for TRICARE and the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Wehmann holds a BFA in graphic design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
