Jingchen (Monika) Hu is a nonresident fellow in the Family and Financial Well-Being Division at the Urban Institute and an associate professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Vassar College.

Hu is an expert in statistical data privacy, and her research focuses on methodology advancement and applications and product development in this area. As an educator, she creates education and training materials in statistical data privacy and offers learning and training opportunities to her students at Vassar College and to city and federal government agency staff members. Throughout her work in statistical data privacy, Hu strives to strengthen the connection between academic research, applications and use cases, education and training, and software development. She also provides assistance in disclosure review and is engaged in organizing and facilitating conferences and other forums on statistical data privacy.

Hu is a consultant on disclosure risk assessment and mitigation with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She holds a BS in computing mathematics from City University of Hong Kong, and MS in statistical science from Duke University, and a PhD in statistical science from Duke University.
