Adam Abram is founder and former chairman of the board of James River Group Holdings, Ltd. He has founded three property-casualty insurance groups, two of which have been publicly traded. Abram also founded Piedmont Community Bank, which, following a series of mergers, became the largest and among the best performing community banks in North Carolina before being sold in 2016. Before entering the insurance business, Abram founded and served as president of Adaron Group, Inc., a developer of approximately 4 million square feet of commercial property in North Carolina. 

In addition to his board position at the Urban Institute, Abram serves on the Sanford board of visitors as well as the boards of The Assembly (NC) and SOLV, Inc. Abram is chairman of the board of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and cochairs the North Carolina donor table.

Abram is a 1978 graduate of Harvard University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in history.
