Gillian Gaynair is a senior writer at the Urban Institute. In collaboration with Urban’s leadership, development, communications, and research teams, she creates a range of content that showcases how Urban’s work contributes to improving people’s lives, strengthening communities, and advancing equity in the US. Prior to joining Urban, Gaynair was an independent communications consultant, working primarily with global development organizations and on issues related to women’s health and rights. She also served as the senior writer and editor at the International Center for Research on Women and deputy director of development at Partners of the Americas, NGOs based in Washington, DC. Earlier in her career, Gaynair was an award-winning journalist at The Associated Press and the Washington Business Journal in Washington, DC, The Oregonian in Portland, Oregon, The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Dayton Daily News in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
