Erin Towery is an affiliated scholar in the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center and an accounting professor in the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. Towery’s research applies empirical methods to investigate the impacts of tax policy, enforcement, and disclosure on business decisions. Her work also extends into corporate finance and financial reporting, including studies of private equity buyouts, capital structure, and Securities and Exchange Commission regulatory oversight of mergers and acquisitions activity.
Towery served as a senior economist with the Council of Economic Advisers from August 2024 through July 2025. She completed her PhD in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
