  • What Organizations Are Adopting Trauma-Informed Housing Principles?

Applying trauma-informed approaches to housing design has the potential to transform living experiences for residents. Below, we highlight the work of several leaders in architecture, design, and affordable housing who presented at the May 2023 roundtable Urban hosted with housing experts to discuss a problem-solving and agenda-building conversation about trauma-informed housing. Design firms MASS Design Group and Shopworks shared their trauma-informed design principles and lessons from their projects. The Kelsey, WinnCompanies, and Enterprise shared their experiences in trauma-informed, people-centered, and disability-forward approaches to housing and their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of expanding this approach in the field. The information that follows for each of these organizations was drawn from the roundtable and supplemented by additional materials available online.
