The Urban Institute Internship Program

2019 Intern Class

At the Urban Institute, your work will have an impact.

We believe in the power of evidence to improve lives and strengthen communities. Public policies work best when they are rooted in facts, and our research sparks solutions in programs and practice. Our analyses and recommendations help expand opportunities for all people, reduce hardship among the most vulnerable, and strengthen the fiscal health and effectiveness of government.

As an intern at the Urban Institute, you’ll work alongside research and policy experts across the organization. Your work will have an impact on real-life, real-time policy issues and discussions.

"[URBAN IS] THE TYPE OF ORGANIZATION WHERE YOU CAN REACH OUT TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHO’S DOING INCREDIBLE RESEARCH AND SAY 'HI, CAN I INTERN WITH YOU?' AND THEY TAKE THE TIME TO REALLY WORK WITH YOU AND HELP YOU LEARN."

2019 Interns in Action

Summer interns in action

"I THINK THIS INTERNSHIP HAS REALLY OPENED MY EYES IN TERMS OF THE WAYS THAT TECHNOLOGY CAN BE USED FOR POLICY RESEARCH. I KNEW THAT I WAS INTERESTED IN THIS FIELD, BUT COMING TO URBAN TO REALLY DELVE INTO THE WAYS THAT URBAN IS LEADING THE CHARGE IN REGARDS TO USING MICROSIMULATION, MACHINE LEARNING FOR THEIR OWN RESEARCH HAS REALLY MADE ME AWARE OF THE CAPABILITIES AND THE IMPACT OF THESE TOOLS IN TERMS OF MAKING RESEARCH FASTER, MORE ACCURATE, INCLUDING MORE DIVERSE PEOPLE."

LAURA WHELAN, 2019 TECH & DATA SCIENCE INTERN
