Abstract
Medicare and Medicaid partner in providing health insurance protection to older people and people with disabilities. But when the same people need help with long-term care, there's a gaping hole in insurance protection. This blog post, summarizing a longer piece, explains how policy has left this hole and argues that filling it requires recognition that addressing the unpredictable, potentially catastrophic need for long-term care requires a new investment in public social insurance.
