Ensuring Data Quality to Strengthen Group Violence Intervention
Wilmington, DE
Community gun violence disproportionately affects Black and Hispanic/Latino people, stemming from discriminatory social and economic policies that uniquely affect these communities. Delaware Group Violence Intervention, housed within the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, aims to mitigate racial disparities in gun deaths and engagement with the criminal legal system through a focused deterrence model. Delaware GVI’s support and outreach team includes community members who are well respected by people at high risk of experiencing violence and use their credibility to interrupt cycles of retaliatory violence, help connect people at high risk to social services, provide robust case management, and change norms around using guns to solve conflicts.
With Catalyst Grant funding, Tech Impact, a technology nonprofit, will partner with Delaware GVI to improve the latter’s service provision by deploying a sustainable data platform. The data platform, built with Catalyst funding, will enable the support and outreach team to efficiently collect, analyze, and visualize data needed to inform program practices; engage in continuous quality improvement; and help ensure ongoing buy-in and support from the community, government leaders, and funders.
