About this Project

Through the Youth Apprenticeship Intermediary Project, the Urban Institute and its partners will connect schools, colleges, employers, workforce development organizations, and other stakeholders to increase the quality and quantity of registered youth apprenticeships. These apprenticeships may begin during high school, but most are expected to continue after high school and include postsecondary education. All will meet the standards of a Registered Apprenticeship pursuant to 29 CFR Parts 29 and 30.

Services We Provide

Our Urban team and experienced apprenticeship consultants can help schools, employers, and other stakeholders start and expand registered youth apprenticeship programs.

These services include the following:

  • helping high schools and associated dual-enrollment programs provide courses required for the apprenticeships (related technical instruction) and advise students and parents in understanding the opportunity to apprentice;
  • providing modest funding to help employers offset the training costs of a Registered Apprenticeship program;
  • providing modest funding to create new Registered Apprenticeship programs;
  • working with employers to select occupations, identify competencies for occupational proficiency, and register programs with state and/or federal apprenticeship agencies; and
  • providing other apprenticeship resources and research.
