Urban Institute cohosts public event in Washington DC “Empowering women for growth and prosperity: navigating barriers and constraints

  • At the culmination of this project, the panel reflected on findings and lessons learnt, particularly how patterns of economic growth create opportunities for women’s economic empowerment, improves sectoral and regional productivity, and improve health and education outcomes for societies.

Urban Institute and LEAD Pakistan cohost policy conference in Islamabad, Pakistan “Empowering Women for Growth & Prosperity: From Evidence to Policy

  • This event brought together over 100 of Pakistan’s foremost policymakers, researchers, parliamentarians and other thought leaders to discuss ways to improve gender equality, particularly in access to economic opportunities.

Team of Urban Institute Researchers wins innovation award

  • For their work on mapping harassment with smartphone technology in Lahore, Pakistan, project team members Yasemin Irvin-Erickson and Ammar A. Malik, along with Faisal Kamiran (Information Technology University Punjab) and Mangai Nataranjan (John Jay College of Criminal Justice) won the 2017 Development Marketplace Innovation Award for Preventing Gender-Based Violence jointly awarded by the World Bank Group and the Sexual Violence Research Initiative.
