 Michael Neal, a wealth and financial well-being expert at the Urban Institute, spoke with USA Today about how modern inheritance rates show “the typical family is not leaving an inheritance.” Despite planning to, many Americans don’t end up leaving an inheritance for reasons including long-term care costs and having never achieved homeownership. “You can't pass the wealth off if you don't have the wealth in the first place,” Neal said.
