Financial coaching offers tremendous potential to help people improve their finances with the assistance and guidance of trained professionals. But these programs are often small in scale and limited to select participants. In 2010, Delaware launched a free statewide financial coaching program—Stand By Me—supported through a broad network of public and private actors. A team of researchers at the Urban Institute recently evaluated this program and found that participants showed improved outcomes across a range of financial measures.

Please join the Urban Institute for a presentation of the research findings from the evaluation and a discussion with key actors associated with Delaware’s Stand By Me program. We’ll also discuss what lessons learned in Delaware could be extended to other states and localities.

  • Diana Elliott, Principal Research Associate, Urban Institute
  • Ray Fitzgerald, Director, Delaware Division of Social Services
  • Irene Lee, Director, Family Economic Success, Center for Economic Opportunity, The Annie E. Casey Foundation
