Many workers in nonstandard work arrangements currently face significant job insecurity and discrimination, as well as substantial challenges accessing essential workplace protections. The COVID-19 crisis adds new urgency to the need for solutions that build a more equitable world with fundamental protections for vulnerable workers. As the nature of work becomes more precarious for more workers, policies must better protect workers in nontraditional work arrangements.
Please join the Urban Institute, the Aspen Institute Future of Work Initiative, and A Better Balance for a virtual panel discussion exploring a policy agenda for stronger protections for misclassified workers, independent contractors, and temporary workers. During the event, worker advocates will discuss opportunities on the ground to advance workplace equity and build worker power. We will also share a new report, Reimagining Workplace Protections: A Policy Agenda to Meet Independent Contractors’ and Temporary Workers’ Needs, created by the Urban Institute, Aspen Institute, and A Better Balance. Building on ideas shared at two worker protection roundtables, the report examines how to address long-standing gaps in workplace protections through policy tied to meaningful enforcement systems.
