Mahmoud Youssef is director of digital enterprise and workplace at the Urban Institute. He is an information technology (IT) professional with extensive experience in industry and academia. Before joining Urban, he was senior director of technology and instructional services and an assistant professor of information systems at Rutgers Business School. Youssef has also been an assistant professor and head of the business information systems department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport; the general manager of IT at Al Mansour Holding Company in Egypt; and a network engineer and database developer at the World Health Organization.
Youssef has broad experience in IT, ranging from enterprise application and enterprise architecture to computing infrastructure, web development, information systems security, video conferencing, and digital signage. He has also advised several organizations as an IT consultant on enterprise systems, business intelligence, and infrastructure. In his academic career, Youssef conducted research on the business value of IT, location privacy, and semantic search and representation.
Youssef has BSc in engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt, as well as an MBA and a PhD in information technology from Rutgers University. He has also earned several professional certificates, including Project Management Professional, Certified Business Analyst, and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
