Elizabeth Barnes is an administrative assistant in the Center on International Development and Governance at the Urban Institute, where she is responsible for travel and visa services, database maintenance, purchase order management, and general office support.
Before joining Urban, Barnes worked at a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization promoting women’s entrepreneurship and economic development in the Middle East. She has a background in international development with a regional specialization in the Middle East and North Africa. She spent significant time living in Egypt and the West Bank, where she worked on projects dealing with refugee assistance, early childhood education, health awareness, and women’s empowerment.
Barnes has a BA in Near Eastern studies from the University of Michigan. She is proficient in Arabic and Spanish.
